About Childcare Facilities

The food program reimburses childcare providers that serve nutritional meals and snacks in addition to organized childcare. 

Child Care Homes

Food is the highest expense for childcare facilities providing childcare in the home.  The application process requires that a home childcare facility interested in participating in the CACFP complete the following steps:

1.  Obtain General Public CPR and First Aid course for children and infants offered by We Care, Inc. 

2.  Complete the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) orientation class for Registered Family Homes.

3.  Contact We Care, Inc. to shedule a pre-approval visit for the CACFP,

4.  Make your home children friendly as instructed in the TDFPS Orientation (smoke detector, BC fire extinguisher, covered wall outlets, etc),

5.  Make the home childcare business operational as instructed in the TDFPS Orientation (sign-in and sign-out forms, receipts book, your policies, etc), and

 6.  Obtain an operational  certificate from TDFPS after licensing staff complete an on-site inspection of your home to insure minimum standards compliance.  

Child Care Center

1.  Obtain Child Development Director Credential (CDDC) offered by We Care, Inc.

2.  Complete the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) orientation class for Child Care Centers,

3.  Make your Child Care Center children friendly as instructed in the TDFPS Orientation (learning centers, toilets, sinks, chairs, tables, adequate space, safety zones,  etc),

4.  Make the Child Care Center business operational as instructed in We Care, Inc.'s CDDC course and TDFPS Orientation (parent and employee handbook, Food Dealer Permit etc), and

5.  Obtain an operational  certificate from TDFPS after licensing staff complete an on-site inspection of your facility to insure minimum standards compliance.  

6.  Contact We Care, Inc. to schedule a pre-approval visit for the CACFP,
